Special Delivery
Linda Eve Diamond, Port Orange, FL
As we rush into the poet office a
letter carrier slows us down to ask if
we’d like an extra- ordinary special
delivery.
If yes, he selects an envelope and
hands out what we imagine is
simply clever packaging for some
slick bit of marketing.
I open mine and find, in ten miraculous
lines, This World
spinning back
through time.
Envelopes open and poems fly from
around the globe, introspections,
explorations, invitations to surprising
places.
Together, we share these worlds of
words, and all that may be found in
translation, in slowing down, and in
quirky acts of kindness.
The poem carrier moves along,
up the street, from town to town, getting
people reading, listening, feeling,
talking, dreaming . . .
offering this special delivery to each, a
simple gift, a moment of peace.
